AT&T
The history of AT&T is deeply rooted in the history of the telephone
in the United States. AT&T's roots stretch back to 1875, with
founder Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone. During the
19th century, AT&T became the parent company of the Bell System, the
American telephone monopoly. The Bell System provided what was by all
accounts the best telephone service in the world. The system broke up
into eight companies in 1984 by agreement between AT&T and the U.S.
Department of Justice. From 1984 until 1996 AT&T was an integrated
telecommunications services and equipment company, succeeding in a newly
competitive environment. Today, AT&T is a global networking leader,
focused on delivering IP-based solutions to enterprise and government
customers. Additionally, as AT&T pivots away from traditional
consumer services, the company continues to offer consumers and small
businesses a breakthrough alternative to traditional services – Voice
over IP.
Verizon
Maryland and Southern Bell. On Nov. 21, 1925 dial service is introduced
to West Virginia in the Huntington office. Without dialing, all calls
had to be placed manually through an operator. In fact, most phones had
no dials at all. The first digital switching equipment is installed in
October 1981 in the Falling Waters and Cheat Lake switching or serving
offices. By 1993, all the equipment we used to connect customers' calls
are digital. The Chesapeake and Potomac begins operations as part of Bell Atlantic
Corporation on Jan. 1, 1984, formed after the divestiture of the Bell
System. Charleston becomes the first city in the United States to have a
choice of long distance companies when they dial long distance calls
using a "1" plus the area code and number. As the nation's first test
market on July 15, 1984, 34,000 customers choose from one of eight long
distance companies serving the area.
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of West Virginia begin
doing business as Bell Atlantic-West Virginia, Inc on Jan. 24, 1994. In
the same year the World Wide Web becomes popular, the Bell Atlantic
WORLD SCHOOL program is launched, the most aggressive deployment of
direct Internet connections to schools in the nation. On June 30, 2000
Bell Atlantic and GTE merge, becoming Verizon. Bell Atlantic-West
Virginia is now Verizon West Virginia.
Quill
Quill is the oldest and largest office supply company in the world. It
was established in 1956 in a "chicken store." By 1957 Quill had
expanded to a 257 square foot basement. Again in 1958 Quill continued
to grow and moved to its first store front with 850 square feet. Later
in Northbrook, Illinois, Quill expanded to 115,000 square feet in 1973.
Quill was purchased by Staples in 1997. Today, the Corporate
Headquarters & Midwest distribution center is in Lincolnshire,
Illinois. They provide over 500,000 products to their business clients.
Quill's pride is also reflected in making ordering extremely easy and

especially, in presenting the line of Quill national brand products
